daza asked:

We are thinking of holidaying in Thailand next march/April. We are thinking of Phuket. We have researched information on the resort, has anyone been recently? Can you recommend a good hotel? We will be booking through a travel agent as this will be our first time in this part of the world.

I stayed there for a month last year. The place I stayed at was called Thanthip villa, and it was on the North side of Patong beach a couple of blocks from the beach itself (very few on-the-beach resorts in Phuket). It was reasonably priced, nice enough, and near enough to everything. It really depends on what you are looking for… Patong beach isn’t the nicest (Kata and Karon are nicer). Buuuttt…. that’s where Bangla is… so it’s the center of night life. Rent a scooter and explore the island no matter where you stay.

You are welcome to Thailand. It is great to hear that you are thinking of holidaying in Phuket as it is an exciting and attractive island. It's really the Paradise Island of Thailand. There is a lifetime of enjoyment waiting for you. Come and enjoy the pleasant atmosphere of Phuket!Regarding hotel, I would recommend "Amari Coral Beach Resort". You may ask your travel agent for any special room rate accordingly.Have a nice trip to Thailand.

I went to Phuket and found it to be very expensive and over rated.I went with Thai friends and they were treated like 2nd class citizens by there own people .my friends vowed they will not go back there and nether will I.I would suggest looking at Krabi as its cheaper, all the islands are close by, the locals are very hospitable and the scenery is stunning. If you do go to Phuket ( Or Krabi ) then I suggest you look at the following web sites., and. If you go to Phuket from Bangkok use as very good sevice to phuket and very cheap.I have been travelled all over Thailand and Thai people are very friendly ( Except Phuket ).Have a wonderful time in the Land of Smiles

I went to Phuket 4 months ago in January. It was a very nice holiday. I stayed in Pineapple Phuket. The owner was nice enough and there was a computer to use for guests. It was a very clean place and the price was very reasonable. Pineapple Phuket is located in Karon Beach which offered some nice snorkeling. It takes about 35 minutes to get here from the airport. If you want to save money, I would recommend you to book a place only for 2 nights, then find a different place to stay. Because the world economy has slowed down, many hotels are offering discounts, however, you won't find the discounts until you are over there. At Pineapple Phuket, I paid 900 baht. If I had booked the night I stayed, I could have paid 850 baht, but I had already made my reservation so I couldn't change it.The people in Phuket are so very friendly, it is a great place for tourists. They will not mind if you look at different hotels and look inside the rooms to see if you can find a better place. There is not much Thai history in Phuket compared with Bangkok. Most of the businesses in Phuket cater heavily to Europeans and westerners. I found Phuket to be the most un-Thai place of all the places I visited in Thailand. I would compare the atmosphere to be like that of Hawaii. If I went back to Phuket, I would stay in Kata Beach or Patong Beach. I liked Kata Beach because there was a nice bakery there, and more street food options. I also like Patong Beach because there is a lot of activity there and it's a very lively environment. Lots of friendly people and things to see and do.I visited the Big Buddha situated on top of the hill. It is a popular buddhist temple.. There are other things to do on Phuket like racing little cars against each other, lots of water sports, and a shooting range.Taxi's are sometimes hard to find in Phuket. On the day of your departure, you may want to book a van to take you to the airport ahead of time to make sure you make your flight on time. I was unable to find taxi in Karon Beach. The taxi's are not like Bangkok where they have bright colors. They are very hard to spot and have only small little papers in the corner of the windshield to identify themselves. The red trucks (songthaews) that you see everywhere will not take you to the airport. My Thailan]I went to Phuket 4 months ago in January. It was a very nice holiday. I stayed in Pineapple Phuket.
